Manifesting What Your Heart Desires

What do you want?  It’s a powerful question and also one of the hardest questions one might ask.  Getting clear on what you desire is not easy. But it is a question worth pondering.  I ask myself that question in a formal practice every day.  In the style of meditation that I practice and teach, every session begins with 4 soul questions:

Who am I?

What do I want?

What is my purpose?

What am I grateful for?

Every morning when I ask these questions, I wait to hear the answers.  Sometimes the answers come immediately, other times nothing comes.  I often hear similar answers day to day and other times I am surprised by the answers that emerge.

The repetition of these questions at the start of daily meditation has taught me the power of directing my attention towards what is important to me.  If you want something to grow stronger in your life, place your attention there. By focusing on what I want I accelerate the process of these desires actually manifesting in my life. [Side note: this is why worrying in one of the most destructive behaviors we can engage in.  It is essential praying for what you do not want.]

After I ask myself the 4 soul questions, the next step is to let the questions and the answers go. This is the trust fall part of the process, and the most challenging step for me. I am a clinger.  I’d like to blame it on my astrological sign of cancer the crab, but the truth is I’ve always had a hard time letting go of things, ideas, people, of what has already passed. Once I am connected to something or someone, it takes an act of Congress to get me to surrender and actually let go.

This step of letting go also gets sidetracked by my planning mind that is conditioned to figure things out and think things through.  The need to clearly plan all the action steps to get me from desire A to outcome B seems like a necessity and yet this ingrained work ethic actually gets in the way of how intention and desire work.  The key is surrendering the outcome and trusting that the Universe might have greater plans for you than you can imagine.

So here are the 3 steps for setting intention if you want to give it a try.  Be forewarned:  this process is powerful!

1)    Figure out what you desire or want.  Think about your desires before yoga or meditation.  Perhaps journal or write down what you want. When you take the time to document what you desire in your heart and mind, you accelerate the process of manifesting your desires.

2)    Surrender the outcome.  Release attachment to how it will end up.

3)    Practice present moment awareness.  Live in the NOW.  Thy will be done.

4)    After you have set you intentions, seal it up with the powerful mantra – OM RITAM NAMAH.  Repeat this phrase 3 times or even write it beneath your list of desires.  This mantra means “my intentions and desires are supported by cosmic intelligence.”

Happy manifesting!
