And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. Quote by Khalil Gibran

Happy Earth Day

Gaia is the name of the ancient Greek goddess of the Earth, and she symbolizes a dynamic, nurturing and sustaining force of abundance.  Gaia is the ultimate symbol of motherhood….limitless giving.
So why have we become so apathetic, disconnected, and ignorant toward this benevolence?  How did we get to a place of such disconnect that we keep polluting the precious ecosystem of Gaia?

Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, identifies our disconnect from nature as as pragya paradh, or a “mistake of the intellect”.  We have forgotten who we are and the interconnectivity we have with all of life and the earth. We have forgotten that we are 70% water, just like the earth is 70% water, and that the human body is comprised of the same 59 elements found in the clay and dirt of the earth.

Yoga teaches one of the best ways for us to reconnect with the energy of the natural world is to slow down and relax.  When we are caught up in the hum of ego, constantly driven to do more, it is next to impossible to feel our connection to all of life.

So get outside today and this weekend and send blessing to Gaia.  Walk barefoot on the earth, do a sun salute on your deck, breath in the Spring air, practice savasana lying on the earth, and feel your whole being recalibrate.
